Blair Snively, DVM (Owner, Veterinarian)

Dr. Snively is originally from Maryland and has lived in Central New York and Mississippi. She is happy to call Bedford County her forever-home. She has a bachelor’s degree from both the University of Maryland and Hartwick College. She obtained her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2016. Dr. Snively has worked at a variety of small animal general practices, with experience in private, corporate, and relief medicine. She founded, owned, and operated the only full-service mixed-animal mobile practice in Mississippi for three years prior to relocating to Virginia in 2021.

She worked as the associate veterinarian for a year before purchasing Blue Ridge Animal Hospital in April 2023. Dr. Snively has post-doctorate training in equine and small animal acupuncture and equine chiropractic. Some of her favorite parts of veterinary medicine are general surgery, dermatology, feline behavior, and client education.

Dr. Snively is a life-long horseman and enjoys fox chasing with the Bedford County Hunt Club. In her freetime, you can usually find her in the barn and enjoying her farm with her husband and son. She has three dogs, two cats, a flock of chickens, and five horses.

A fun fact about Dr. Snively is that she taught high school agriculture and coached the University of Maryland Equestrian Team prior to attending veterinary school.

Kristin (Licensed Veterinary Technician)

Kristin is originally from Southaven, Mississippi. She is a licensed veterinary technician with four years’ experience in veterinary medicine and an additional five years’ experience in shelter medicine. Kristin graduated from Mississippi State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine with a major in Veterinary Medical Technology in 2020. She was the president of her class!

What she loves most about veterinary medicine is getting to know both the patients and clients on a personal level and bonding with them. “I don’t want to visit somewhere that feels transactional, so I know clients don’t either. Plus, I want to get to know your fur babies through every life stage!” says Kristin.

Kristin is very passionate about end-of-life care. She sees this as a sacred time as a veterinary professional, one in which we can bring peace to the ailing. She takes this role very seriously. After Kristin lost a beloved pet, she completed a course to become a Pet Loss Specialist to better understand and assist both clients and patients in this transition.

During Kristin’s personal time, she enjoys spending time with her four children, two cats, and her Great Dane! Kristin is looking forward to meeting each client and patient at BSVS. A fun fact about Kristin: she used to work with Dr. Snively in Mississippi as a certified veterinary technician at her mixed-animal ambulatory practice!

Dayna (Office Manager)

Dayna was born and raised in Rustburg, VA. She graduated from Central Virginia Community College and obtained a certificate for medical coding. At the clinic, she enjoys the lovely patients we get to see.

Dayna likes to learn new things, and says, “I find human and animal behavior fascinating.” Her calm demeanor and friendly attitude make her an excellent customer service representative and she looks forward to what each new day will bring at the clinic.

Friends of Dayna’s say she is extremely caring, and her love language is giving people thoughtful gifts. At home, Dayna has two adorable cats named Meatball and Tofu! A fun fact about Dayna is that she loves to decorate her car for holidays and festive occasions!

Maddie (Veterinary Assistant)

Maddie is from Appomattox, VA and graduated from Appomattox County High School in 2021. She loves helping sick pets feel better and get them back to being their normal, healthy selves. Maddie was an active member of her local chapter of the Future Farmer’s of America (FFA) for seven years.

In her spare time, Maddie loves fishing, tubing, and staying at her family’s lake house. She is looking forward to learning new skills at BSVS. Her enthusiasm is contagious at the clinic and she is an extremely hard worker, helping keep people on task and helping to improve daily efficiency.

Maddie is a mama to three dogs, Lola, Mia, Bailey, and a cat, Winston. A fun fact about Maddie is that she was a cheerleader for 17 years!

Hailey (Customer Service Specialist)

Hailey is from Lynchburg, VA and graduated from Altavista High School 2018. Hailey enjoys meeting clients and the adorable fur babies that come into the clinic. Hailey says she can tell everyone at BSVS cares about their pets like family and she loves being around such a good environment. Her love for animals is evident in her willingness to help with foster puppies from the shelter.

In her free time, she enjoys playing board and card games with her family and when time allows, she also loves to get lost in her writing. Hailey is looking forward to learning and growing with BSVS. She says, “I have a lot to learn, but the practice feels like a little family and I’m eager to see what they can teach me.” Hailey is friendly and wants to make our clients feel welcome and like they’re at home. A fun fact about Hailey is that she is left-handed.

Neftali (Patient Care Assistant)

Neftali, or “Nef,” for short, was homeschooled in Rustburg, VA. Nef feels that veterinary medicine does wonders for pets’ health and well-being. He loves going to the movies and finding new televisions shows to get immersed in. He is eager to learn more about animal handling and keeping pets safe and healthy. His love for animals is shown in his gentle care and calm demeanor around our patients as well as his furbabies at home. Nef is extremely hardworking. He never says no to a task, takes great pride in our facility, and is always willing to learn and adapt. A fun fact about Nef is that he’s never been on a train.

Mindy (Practice Manager)

Mindy hails from Lynchburg, VA. She attended Central Virginia Community College and Liberty University and studied Business Administration. She is currently a student with Canine Trainer’s Academy to obtain her dog training certification! She is also a QuickBooks Pro Advisor and a human Certified Patient Caregiver.

Mindy loves learning the behaviors of animals. She says, “Animals are like toddlers, they can’t tell you what hurts or when they don’t feel good. We must be the ones to advocate for them and learn their signs to help them feel better.”

In her free time, Mindy loves watching baseball, playing board games with her family, night-time hide and seek, and can conquer six seasons of a Netflix program in a weekend.

Mindy says, “I cannot wait to see Bluestone grow its roots in Bedford County and witness the pets and people that we will have a hand in helping as we create lifelong friendships with our pet families.” She is even more excited to watch our staff grow individually and as a team.

Over the past several years, Mindy and her family fostered many momma dogs and puppies. Giving dogs a safe place to give birth, raising their babies, watching them grow, and meet their new families was a life-changing journey. She says, “It has shown my kids empathy and how to care for sick and scared puppies. We have shedded tears as a family with many of the sickest puppies, but we also know that we are the bridge for these babies, to help them get healthy and onto new loving homes.”

Mindy is truly the anchor of BSVS, working tirelessly to ensure that our practice runs smoothly behind the scenes. Mindy is very business savvy, a fair and practical leader, and possesses great vision.

One fun fact that people may not know about her is that most evenings you can find her and her youngest son out playing Pokémon Go. It’s something that they both love and can do together.

Mindy is married to her very best friend, Justin. They have been married for 13 years, have four kids and six rescue doggies: Daisy, Gus, Izzy, Meatball, Luna, and Sir Charles Maximilian.

Madisen (Surgery Coordinator, Veterinary Assistant)

Madisen is originally from New York and fell in love with the Blue Ridge Mountains six years ago while studying at Liberty University. She plans to pursue a program to obtain her Licensed Veterinary Technician certification in the fall of 2023. She is currently working on her certification as a Pet Nutrition Coach and is Fear Free Certified.

Madisen has been in veterinary medicine for 3 years, first in a shelter setting, and then as a veterinary assistant for the past year. Madisen loves using hands-on technical skills as well as helping with client education in veterinary medicine. She has a passion for surgery and loves helping with a pet’s positive surgical experience.

If you need a smile to lift you up, or a shoulder to cry on, Madisen is there. She is excellent with clients and maintains very strong empathy and ethics. She says, “I am looking forward to the opportunities with BSVS to educate patient families on how best to support their pet through nutrition and post operative care. I am honored to be a part of a staff that feels like family and for the patients and families we will serve!”

When she is not at work, Madisen is usually spending time with her hubby, Josh, watching FRIENDS for the 100th time, photographing precious moments, or taking their three dogs for an adventure. A fun fact about Madisen is that she played softball in high school and was the only left-handed catcher in her county.
